Ignacio Catalan-Serra is a gastroenterologist at the Hospital of Levanger (Norway) and Senior Researcher in the IBD Group at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU).

He obtained his PhD degree on immunology (unconventional T cells) in Crohn´s disease and continued with a post-doctoral training at NTNU. He has been leading international research collaborations in the field of IBD with focus on immunological aspects, the mycobiome, prediction of IBD and clinical trials, including EU funded projects.

Dr. Catalan-Serra is currently the National Representative of Norway at ECCO and serves as Associated editor of ECCO News.

He is a board member of the UEG Education Committee and the Director of the UEG Summer School. Ignacio is also member of the AGA International Education sub-committee and the IBD committee of the World Gastro Organization.

He is committed to improving a holistic care of IBD patients, foster the education about IBD globally, and to contribute finding a cure for the disease.
